Mornings with Kurk: Our Founders Rituals

We're all for morning rituals here at Kurk. If you're looking to get your morning off to a great start, there are some simple things you can do to boost your energy and set you up for a productive day. Your body has been fasting overnight, and the best way to flush out all of yesterday’s toxins is to drink plenty of water first thing in the morning. Starting your day with a clean slate is a great way to say goodbye to yesterday and hello to today.

Drinking some warm water, warm water with lemon, or even apple cider vinegar is a great way to gently wake your body up in the morning. Warm water is soothing to the digestive tract and feels like a warm wake-up call for your insides, while the bitterness of lemon or apple cider vinegar stimulates the digestive juices and prepares the digestive tract for the breakfast that follows.

Having a healthy and filling breakfast not only prepares us for the day ahead, but has a direct effect on our food choices for the rest of the day. Incorporating plenty of fibre, good fats, and protein in your breakfast is key to keeping us full, stabilising our energy levels throughout the day, and effectively fueling our metabolism.

Our co-founder’s morning ritual—Trent Scanlen

“My morning ritual is to have a daily shot of Kurk in sparkling water while I'm waiting for my coffee to brew. I won't turn on my phone until I've finished my first cup. If it's a heavy training day, I'll have a shot of MCT oil in my coffee and fast until after my first first work block (7-11am) and training session 11-12pm. If it's a rest day I will sometimes have some eggs and avocado mid morning. What I'm trying to embed in my routine at the moment is meditation. I've fallen out of the 10 minute ritual, and it's on the top of my list for July.”

Whatever your morning may look like, rituals are important. They set an expectation and can help to bring a degree of predictability and consistency to an uncertain day ahead.
